Life Lately: On Loving Everything and Generally Enjoying Life Again

The past few months have felt like a whirlwind, especially with the whole epic engagement thing.  I’m going to try not to post too much wedding stuff (tbh I am an intense planner of all things but apparently it isn’t yet translating to the wedding front.  Everyone always asks me all these questions and I’m like IDK, I’ve never done this before! *shrugs*)  While the engagement and the asking of bridesmaids was all Harry Potter themed, Andrew and I have actually settled on SPACE as our wedding theme.  We want to incorporate as many fandom things as possible and still tie it all together so space it is!  Think Star Wars, Doctor Who, Firefly, Battlestar Galactica and possibly Super Mario Galaxy.  We really want a full size TARDIS at our wedding so we have to figure that out, but that’s really all that we’ve accomplished on the wedding front so far.  We haven’t looked at places or picked out a date (although we are aiming for May) but since that’s right around the corner in the wedding world we’re going to try to start tackling it all this weekend.

Mid-July to late August was a strange time for me.  I was suffering from major headaches which I’m attributing to the weather because they seemed to disappear for good once the air got crisper.  I went to the doctor for the first time in 3 years and everything because I could not figure out what was wrong and it was really kind of scary (especially being someone who worries about every little thing).  I spent most of those days sitting at my work desk and hoping that I could make it through the day despite all the dizziness and headaches.  I spent most nights going home and going straight to sleep in the hopes that my head would be clear in the morning.  I couldn’t even read which was really upsetting, especially if you know what an avid reader I am.  Since I’ve begun to start getting back into the swing of things I’ve been binge reading manga (Neighborhood Story, Ranma 1/2), comics (Gotham Academy, Lady Killer, Squirrel Girl) and I’m 70% through Felicia Day’s book but sadly I don’t seem to be enjoying that one as much as other bloggers.  I think I’m finally at the interesting part, but the beginning was really slow and kind of boring IMO.

On the weekends, Andrew and I have been spending lots of time binge watching Netflix things in my room.  We’ve been watching Chuck which he hasn’t ever seen and I never finished and I’m so happy to be back in the world of espionage at the Buy More.  Casey is by far my favorite character and I wish I knew someone like him in real life because I would try to break him with kindness until he smiles more.  We also started re-watching the original Sailor Moon anime since I’ve been purchasing the blu-ray collections as they’ve been released.  I like it so much better than Sailor Moon Crystal!  But it’s weird hearing Usagi called bunhead instead of meatball head.  And for nights when Andrew is at his house I usually put on Hart of Dixie in the background while I putz around on my computer.

In the gaming department, I’ve been really addicted to Pokemon Shuffle on iOS and Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon on 3DS.  Andrew makes fun of me for being the angriest gamer ever when I play Luigi’s Mansion but I can’t help that I like winning things!  I swear I find it enjoyable once I clear the missions but my stress levels before getting there are off the charts.  I may have been tempted to throw my 3DS across the room a few times.  Speaking of Nintendo, our Amiibo addiction has also come back in full force.  Our collection is nearly complete but we swear we’re only buying the ones we really care about.  We also picked up Super Mario Maker and we cannot wait to spend some quality time with the Wii U on Sunday!  And lastly, I’ve made it a personal goal to play through all of my Zelda 3DS games by the end of the year.

A cool thing I did recently was to be a guest on the Co-Ed Geek Girl Slumber Party hosted by Lorraine Cink.  You may know Lorraine from her work as the host of Marvel’s The Watcher.  She’s a super awesome lady and I was so excited that she asked me to be part of her first show.  It’s described as a nerdy variety show and some of the things that happened were 1) Jill and I teamed up for a cosplay competition where we had to put makeup on a poor unsuspecting member of the audience and turn her into a Predator, 2) we had a special visit from drunk Aquaman who gave the most hilarious speech where he kept picking on Batman, and 3) we ened it with a dance party!  The second show is scheduled during NYCC so if you want to attend, tickets will be on sale soon.

As you may have already seen in my last 5 Fandom Friday post, Megan of The Nerdy Girlie and I are hosting our first Instagram Photo a Day Challenge!  It’s been in the works for a long time but since we both love Autumn, we figured October would be the PERFECT time to kick things off! We hope you play along with us and we can’t wait to see all of your photos!  I’ve also started doing some outfit photos on my blog which are much more conducive now that I’m not living in a tiny Brooklyn apartment.  I already have a bunch planned and they’ve been so much fun to shoot (even though I’m awkward and don’t know how to pose just yet, sorry Andrew!).

5FF October Photo A Day Challenge

So yeah, that was my super long life lately update.  I’m going to be posting shorter versions of these more frequently now that my blogging ~vision~ is back on track.  I think I can attribute my past slumpiness to the awful roommate / apartment situation I had for most of last year and the disheartening comics experience which I elaborated on a bit in my last Outfit of the Day post.  I didn’t make a big deal of it at the time even though it absolutely is one and it really effected my attitude and damaged my relationship with my love of comics for a while.  I’ve been so much happier and less stressed these days now that it’s all behind me!  I really feel a renewed sense of enthusiasm toward everyone and everything and it’s honestly just the best feeling in the world.  I wish I could hug everyone who’s stuck with me through it all because it means the world to me ^.^

Besides everything I’ve mentioned I’ve mostly been spending my time eating and drinking pumpkin flavored things and planning my Fall season based on the Autumn Activities list I posted.  What’ve you been up to lately?

Yay for life updates! So glad to hear things are going better for you as you approach…”the final frontier” (SPACE! WEDDING! EEE!)

Oh and Sailor Moon > Sailor Moon Crystal all the way. I never watched anything but subs so “bunhead” doesn’t throw me! Can’t wait for Haruka and Michiru to show up – how far along are you in the series?! I’m still at the agonizing part in SS2 when Mamoru refuses to be with Usagi because he thinks the world will end and her heartbreak is too much to bear!!! :*-(

  3. I’m glad your headaches are gone! I’ve been getting them a lot lately too and I think mine are also because of the super warm (well, hot) weather. Hopefully it’ll stop when it gets a little colder!

I’m happy to hear everything is getting better for you :) On the headache front, something you might consider is your air conditioning. I always get horrible headaches in the hot weather months, but it’s not from the heat itself, it’s the air conditioner! Especially if you go in and out a lot it can really mess with your sinuses. I don’t know if it will help you, but it helped me a lot to turn the temperature inside up (or turn the air off if you can handle it) and run a humidifier. Hopefully they’re gone for good, but if they come back next summer it might be something to think about!

Really?! I’m going to keep that in mind! My headaches were always the worst during the workweek which is when I would spend the most time walking outside in the heat and then spending 8 hours in a FREEZING building. That could definitely be the case!!

  7. Summer is the worst, glad you’re feeling better!
I also didn’t LOVE Felicia’s book, but it was a quick read and definitely interesting to hear about the interweb before it was so popular.
How did you make the insta graphic? I love it!!
